This page method for setting up a game of Twilight Imperium: Fourth Edition® with the Prophecy of Kings® expansion, by Fantasy Flight Games™ (not affiliated with miltydraft.com). It is design it specifically to give each faction a nice slice, intended for teaching games (and not for competitive games).
Each player should choose which faction they wish to play from the list. Players may also choose a random faction by clicking on the “ ” icon. When selecting a faction, the complexity of that faction will be shown on the far left of the row.
When the generator is run, each player will be given a “slice” of systems near their home system. These slices are balanced to have approximately equal total optimal resources and influence (where “optimal” takes into account how a planet will be spent e.g. the 1 influence of Starpoint is ignored due to its higher 3 resources). Each faction has a different preference for how much it values resources and influence in its slice. Each faction also gets a relevant technology specialty in its slice, and wormholes and anomalies should be spread out between slices. Seating order and initial speaker are assigned at random.
If an experienced player is teaching the game to new players, they may click the “ ” icon. A player with the “ ” icon will receive handicap of a reduced the total resource and influence in their slice.
The slider determines how many slices are generated; of these, the map with the best heuristic is returned. A higher number of slices will generally produce a better map, but will take longer to generate. The value that appears below the “Start” button after a map is generated is the heuristic; a lower value represents a better heuristic. A heuristic of approximately 1000 per player is expected, but will vary by factions. |
